SCARBOROUGH, Maine - Stephen J. O'Brien, 45, of Scarborough, Maine, died after a long illness on Friday, April 25, 2003, at Maine Medical Center.
He was born in Traverse City, a son of Louis J. and Rosiland O'Brien. He was educated in Traverse City schools and graduated from the University of Michigan with degrees in Electrical Engineering and Physics.
Following graduation, Steve moved to Maine and was employed by National Semi Conductor as senior design engineer, with 22 years of service.
Steve was an avid golfer and recorded his first hole-in-one at Sable Oaks last year. He also loved to play bridge and participated in sports of any kind.
He was predeceased by his mother, Rosiland O'Brien, and a brother, Richard O'Brien.
Surviving are his wife of 18 years, Kathleen (Lefebvre) O'Brien of Scarborough; his father, Louis J. O'Brien and wife Kay of Traverse City; brothers, David O'Brien of Beverly Hills, Calif., Joseph O'Brien of Gaylord, and Daniel O'Brien of Independence, Ohio; three sisters, Susan Menendez of Buckley, Patricia Maxwell of Kalkaska, and Kathleen O'Brien of Boulder, Colo.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial visitation was held Thursday, May 1, at Jones, Rich and Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford Street, in Portland, Maine. A time of remembrance was held there on Friday, May 2.
